The 411: Two is better than one on Boomtown. Not only is this selection a double CD set, but there are two Booms introducing songs. DJ Boom employs video director Benny Boom as host on the first CD.
While many DJs these days are focusing on exclusives from A-list superstars, DJ Boom showcases up-and-coming talent such as Brooklyn's German Luger, who's signed to Rockwilder and DJ Twinz's Muzik Park production company. "Look, junior, you better play like Sammy Davis Jr. and tap dance your ass away/ This ain't the matinee," Luger freestyles over Boogie Down Productions' classic beat from "The Bridge Is Over."
Also included on the mix CD is the return of Queens' Ali Vegas, who just a few years ago was being tapped by some as the next coming of Nas. Taking a page from Tupac, Vegas turns in "This Is the Realest Sh-- I Ever Wrote," during which he tells labels he needs at least $1 million to sign a recording contract. "If not, then I guess it's back to reading books and peddling cracks ... / Vegas is a pheee-nom."
Even Mysterious, who was cut by P. Diddy during MTV's "Making the Band," chimes in, rapping over Notorious B.I.G.'s "N---as Bleed."
Other notable tandems hitting the street this week are the pairings of New York drama royalty DJ Kay Slay and radio personality Wendy Williams. The duo host Cutmaster C's All Star Lineup 2K3, which features a collaboration by Lil' Kim and Missy Elliott called "Turn It Up" and a Mobb Deep track called "Ready to Die."
Kay Slay has his own CD (the third one he's dropped in three weeks), Streetsweepers' All Star Weekend, which features a Lil' Kim and Twista pairing called "Ride With Us" and a remake of Maze's "Before I Let Go" by Jadakiss, Eve and Fabolous.
