Posted Jan, 9 2003--SomeBody recently caught up with 50 Cent at the 106 & Park studios to ask him some offbeat questions.
50 Cent who is no stranger to controversy took a minute out of his hectic schedule to sit down and answer our off-beat "Corner Of 106" questions. Next week, 50 Cent will be premiering his latest video "In The Club" on "106 & Park." His album Get Rich Or Die Trying will be out next month so be sure to cop it when it drops. Here's what he had to say.
Who's your favorite R&B artist from the eighties and why?
Mary J. Blige. Mary's dope. I think she brought Hip Hop and R&B together.
What's your favorite moment from the movie Friday and why?
Aw man, I'd have to say when Worm came around to get his paper from Smokey and he told him that he and craig had smoked it. That was cool to me because it was real. People don't take responsibility for their own actions. Then they want to share it when the consequences come.
What do you say to someone when you want to break up?
B*** leave, don't call me. I don't give a f*** about your crocodile tears, it's your fault. I don't care what I did, it's your fault.
What gets on your nerves the most about the opposite sex?
Nothing really, I'm into women.
What do you love most about the opposite sex?
I just love being around women even if I'm not in a relationship. With men, we're all about competition in one way or another. I'm willing to do whatever I have to to eat and if I see someone with more than me, I'll scratch my head like, 'why can't that be me?'
Who do you think is the most misunderstood person of the last ten
years?
Me. People misunderstood me out the gate. My deal with Columbia wasn't a good deal. I had $250,000. I got $65,000 in advance, $50,000 went to Jam Master Jay, $10, 000 went to the attorneys that negotiated the deal and the release. I was only left with $5000 so I was still selling crack. The thought process for "How To Rob" is the thought process for the kids watching the videos in the hood. That's the type of robbery that makes sense; to rob a person for a half-million dollars worth of jewelry is a better situation when you know that when you rob somebody, your life is in danger afterwards. That is, if you don't wind up killing them in the process. You could rob somebody for $40 and they blow your head off because you just took their last $40. You could be in the midst of robbing ten people and one dude in that pack could only have $40 and he'll blow your head off for it. So, "How To Rob" wasn't just me being creative, it was me going through, what I was going through. People misunderstand me for that.
What's your favorite saying or quote?
"He who fears death is in denial, for death is promised." That's by 50 Cent.
Tell me one thing you know for sure.
One thing I know for sure is that I'm content with myself. I see the expectations that people have around me already since I signed the deal [with Shady Records]. It makes no difference to me when people sit around and wishing for me to do bad, I'm already doing better than people around me would expect. I'm already on cloud 9, I'm floating.
What do you hate being asked by journalists?
"What's the beef between you and Ja Rule?" My career is not based on Ja Rule. I put out so much music that entertains people and has nothing to do with him.
